Tolko Industries Ltd. (Tolko) built a world-class Engineered Wood Products facility 20 km east of Slave Lake, Alberta.
This greenfield oriented strand board plant is the first stage in Tolko's multi-staged, value-added initiative in Alberta and the first of its kind for the Company. Tolko Athabasca represents an exciting new direction for Tolko: the manufacture of a unique line of specialty Engineered Wood Products for the building market.
The plant provides 125 permanent manufacturing jobs and up to 125 contract jobs in woodland activities. The manufacturing of Engineered Wood Products began in the spring of 2008. With a capacity of 750 million square feet (3/8" basis), the mill will commercialize work we have undertaken in partnership with the Alberta Research Council. The plant will meet or exceed all environmental regulations and strive for a position of environmental leadership.
