Sustainable Forest Management Plan
Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) can be defined
as management to maintain and enhance the long-term health
of forest ecosystems, while providing ecological, economic,
social, and cultural opportunities for the benefit of present
and future generations. (Canadian
Council of Forest Ministers, 1992)
Tolko began development of the new SFM Plan in February 2002 with the initiation of a joint Public Advisory Group (PAG). The PAG identified regional level forest values, as well as objectives, indicators, and targets to ensure that those values were addressed. The SFMP documents the processes and activities that have been undertaken, and those that will continue to be ongoing, to provide management direction for forest management on this DFA. Ongoing reporting against this plan and plan revisions based on new information will ensure the SFMP is a “living” document with continual improvement. The 2007 SFMP is being audited against the requirements of the CSA Sustainable Forest Management System – Standard CAN/CSA Z809-02.
